Highlight: IARC partners with Japanese research center

IARC Director Hajo Eicken recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Dr. Sei-Ichi Saito, Director of Hokkaido University’s new Arctic Research Center (HU-ARC), located in Sapporo, Japan. This MOU will further deepen and initiate new collaborations between Hokkaido University, IARC and UAF.
Collaborations include joint projects in Alaska (oceanographic and permafrost site measurements, and other work), as well as exchanges of students and faculty members. For example, IARC’s Andrey Pnyushkov will visit HU-ARC to collaborate on analysis and interpretation of ice-profiling sonar data from NABOS moorings. Go Iwahana and Hajo Eicken recently contributed lectures to a Hokkaido University Summer Institute. These exchanges will be used to develop joint proposals on larger projects.
