New IARC logo

By Heather McFarland | July 24, 2020

IARC is excited to launch an updated logo as part of an ongoing effort to improve communication and branding across the almost 20 organizations that IARC is home to. We have grown and evolved over the years, and we now have a fresher look with improved versatility for our logo.

Check out the evolution of our logo! Since the beginning in 1997, our logo featured a polar bear tying us to UAF, our host university, where the ‘nanook’ is mascot. In the 2000s the polar view of Earth was added to represent our focus on Arctic and sub-Arctic research. These features are still incorporated in our logo today.

IARC’s original logo design from the late 1990s
The first revision of the logo featured arched text and more clearly made the connection between the polar bear, representing UAF, and the Arctic.
A more recent version of the logo featured brighter colors and more classic font.
The new 2020 IARC logo is bolder, with modern font, and strong options for use on both dark and light backgrounds, as well as in black and white.

The International Arctic Research Center is part of the University of Alaska Fairbanks.

IARC's purpose is to understand the Arctic to make a difference.
