The Alaska Resilience Center is a collaboration between UAF’s International Arctic Research Center and the Department of Energy’s Los Alamos National Laboratory. The goals of the researchers and graduate students involved in the project are to:

• Review existing guidance on priority needs for information relevant in long-range planning and decision-making contexts
• Identify DOE data and products that are candidates for use in enhancing resilience of Alaska communities
• Facilitate interaction between community partners and DOE scientists to assess potential uses of DOE  information
• Determine which data development and delivery steps are both feasible and desirable

Climate Models for Alaska’s Energy Future

Joy Fenimore has been working together with programmers and modelers from the Alaska Center for Energy & Power and the Scenarios Network for Alaska + Arctic Planning to develop modeled Typical Meteorological Years for Alaska communities. Collaborations started in August of 2025 in Fairbanks and accelerated with an in-person hackathon in Anchorage in November. By identifying both key variables and critical time-scales for energy modeling work could begin and a May 2026 event in Fairbanks pushed collaborations to the point of initial output datasets for several communities.
