Sep 27, 2018–Sep 28, 2018
The Arctic Cryosphere Changes and Their Impacts: Defining a Collaborative Research Agenda workshop focused on collaboration and science plan development between UAF-IARC and the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Workshop goals included:
- Building on the 2017 workshop and subsequent exploratory research to identify common research interests and concrete next steps
- Developing specific scientific objectives for CAS-IARC/UAF collaboration (2019-2020 time frame) for these sub-themes:
- glacier mass balance and freshwater input into ocean at key Alaska sites
- discontinuous permafrost and surface hydrology in the Seward Peninsula
- coastal sea ice and subsea permafrost in northern Alaska
- sustainability and cryospheric service
- atmospheric pollution and cryospheric change
- Sketching out an implementation plan, specify next steps and key requirements for the collaboration, develop joint teams and identify key contact for each sub-theme (see Appendix)
- Identifying linkages and synergies between the five sub-themes, in particular in the context of cryospheric services and UN Sustainable Development Goals
