Sunny!!! Yay!! We enjoyed the sunshine while it lasted. By early evening it was overcast with rain. I woke up to the biggest iceberg I have seen so far. There weren’t so many smaller pieces of ice today, just random larger bergs.
Today, I would like to share the kompot recipe. On the ship, kompot is served every day during lunch and dinner. It is a very popular drink in Russia and found in most diners, like soda pop in the United States.
10-14 oz (300-400 gr) mixed dried fruit
Sugar, honey to taste
3 qrt (1 ltr) filtered water
The mix consists of dried fruit such as: dried apples, apricots, prunes, raisins, rosehips, dates, and dried cherries. You may use any dried fruit.
First, thoroughly rinse fruit. Put the fruit in a large pot and pour in filtered water. Soak for 5-6 hours, overnight is even better. Put the pot on the stove, cover with a lid, and bring to a boil. Do not let the fruit boil. Add sweetener. Let brew for 30 minutes – 2 hours, the longer the better. Strain liquid from the fruit. Add orange, lemon or lime zest. Kompot may be served warm or cold. Enjoy!
Breakfast: porridge, ham and cheese
Lunch: turkey potato soup, fried cod, cauliflower, and salad
Tea Time: yoghurt and watermelon
Dinner: pork cutlet, beets, potatoes, and salad
