Note from the ship- Mooring recovery

The NABOS cruise reached their first observation site yesterday! They successfully recovered mooring M6-AK6 which was in water for three years (deployed in summer 2015). This is one of seven moorings forming a mooring cross-slope section off Severnaya Zemlya archipelago. This section consists mostly of German (AWI) equipment, but this specific mooring had a lot of IARC instrumentation. Thus, this is a part of our collaborative work with our German colleagues. Our international team will be recovering moorings from this cross-section for several more days.

Being so far north, NABOS internet connection is poor so posts may be intermittent.

Gone are the days of napping on the deck. It’s time to get started gathering data!

This is a surface mooring like the one recovered yesterday.
